WAYLAND, N.Y. - If your car runs out of gas, flagging down another vehicle can
be a good idea.
But not if the other vehicle happens to be a police cruiser - and you've been
drinking, and the car you're driving has been reported stolen.
That's how authorities describe a case in western New York.
The Steuben County Sheriff's Department says a 17-year-old flagged down a deputy
after the car he was driving ran out of gas.
The deputy detected a few discrepancies in the teen's story and eventually
charged him with driving while intoxicated, unlicensed operation of a vehicle,
and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
